The purpose of Wellness Word is to publish health promotion and health literacy information for our campus community. We hope you will find this helpful in your endeavors to be more educated about your health in order to lead a more healthy lifestyle. Watch for a new entry each month.  We will also advertise health and wellness events being held on campus. We are open to suggestions regarding health topics to research and publish. Let's learn together and become better stewards of God's gift of health!

MEDICATION SAFETY 101 Medications are wonderful scientific creations that treat all types of illnesses and conditions. They are specific chemicals made for specific purposes. And, if they are prescribed by a healthcare provider, are ordered for a specific person. It is important to know how to properly take medications. Below are 10 reminders for your safety. 1.      Follow the instructions on the label: whether prescription or over-the-counter (OTC). Research has been done to determine how take medications for the best response. FLU PREVENTION 101

Colds, strep and flu are here! Follow these basic steps to help avoid getting and passing these bugs: - Clean Your Hands! Hand sanitizer or soap & water. -Clean high touch surfaces with antibacterial products. -Eat a Balanced Diet! Add vitamin C, zinc, immune boosters. -Drink Water! 8 glasses a day. -Cover your Coughs and Sneezes—into the bend of your arm. -Get Plenty of Sleep! -Stay out of class/work if you have a Fever. Return when you have been Fever-Free for 24 hours. -Treat symptoms: acetaminophen or ibuprofen, decongestants, cough suppressants, chicken soup . -See a Dr. if you have a fever 101 or higher, if you can’t keep anything down or if your symptoms are not gradually improving. - Get A FLU SHOT!
